Recovery Week 5

Per usual, when I don't fully listen to my body, it comes back with a roar as to it's needs.  If you remember, last week I finally got in with my chiro and my 90 dollar co pay that doesn't even touch the total cost of my visits, and got down to business.  He taped my foot so I could at least get my pacing duties done for the spring, and gave me even more exercises to do for hip/foot/body.  Here is how the week went down and spoiler alert, little to no running happened.

When you are so tired that can't even....

Monday:  Chiro visit again.  This time I got to meet a new chiro/athletic trainer at Joint Fit, and I got to be scraped from the top of my hamstrings to the tip of my toes.  It was oddly enjoyable.  While he did press down fairly hard, I think he was going easy on me (easier than Dr. Needles) because I felt pretty good.  His comment was my legs were pretty crunchy LOL!  I told him about my pain at mile 12 and how I have never had cramps before and I was even drinking Nuun the entire race.  He did locate a knot in one of my calf muscles that he was working on and then started working on my lower back/hip when Dr. Needles came in.  He quickly did some manual therapy on whatever that is below my calf muscle, but above my Achilles (lower calf muscle???) and found some soreness to work out.  He also did a ton of work on my back and my upper back that was total locked up.  I have never heard my back crack so loudly!!!!   Maybe this is why I have been having headaches constantly for the past few weeks?  I just thought it was allergies.  He okayed me biking and doing barre and said I needed to do my PT every day and rest from running for at least 10 days.  Well, I was already on day 2 of resting, so I agreed.  Now normally I would be FREAKING OUT about not running, but my body needs a break and I know this.  If I could get out of pacing the next race I would, but I made a commitment and I am not going to break that if at all possible.

We survived!!!! 1st grade, here we come!
Tuesday:  Cross training time!!!  I got up around 5ish and headed out pre sun rise to get an hour or so on the bike.  I do love riding my bike and  I love that it gives me that me time that I so need right now.  I did feel a little tight, but all the PT I am doing helps with tightness!

Andrew with his favorite para and some of his favorite friends
We also had the LAST day of kindergarten.  I can't believe we made it to this point!  Bring on the summer!  Boys and Girls club starts up in earnest next week, so little man hung out at the shop with me for the rest of the week.
1st day of summer.  Not sure if we played Mexican Dominoes right, but we tried!
Wednesday:  Cross training time!!!!  Post track club, I hit a 20 minute barre routine called posture and back.  As usual those little exercises kicked my ass, but all in a good way.  I did kind of cheat and did a tiny bit of running and form drills in practice, BUT the legend, the man, Coach Patton was the head coach at practice, and I wanted to try all the things he gave the kids to do. I also got to help with some long jump, and boy do I have a lot to learn!  I can see how some of the events really get into kid's heads, as there are SO many steps to perform to get it right.  At least with running you just GO!

My inkburn shirt arrived and is AMAZING!
Thursday:  Rest day.  Unintentional, but we worked over 12 hours at the shop, and i was just tired and wanted a good meal and bed.  I honestly have not worked a full 8 hours a day in a while, so my body and my brain have to get back use to doing that.  Then I scratched ALL.NIGHT.LONG.  I had gotten poison ivy from somewhere and it was not only on my arm but all over my face.

Friday:  My hubby's 40th birthday!  Finally, he can join me in the wonderful world of 40!  I also went to the Dr's office and got on some steroids.  I was prepared for a shot, but I got 10 days of pills instead :(  On the bright side, the other inflammation I have going on in my body will be taken care of, but on the dark side, I hope it doesn't make me feel icky, extremely hungry, or wide awake at night.

Tony picked Tall Grass Tap house for dinner, and I was so excited because we haven't been in probably a year!  We had wonderful brews and yummy food, and then that awesome chocolate peanut butter cake that his mom ordered through a local bakery here in Wamego.  HUGE shout out to Emerald City Bakery!

After dinner, we walked around downtown Manhattan and ended up at the local game shop.  You can check out a game for 10 bucks and play it before you buy it, so we tried out a fun Mario game.  It took us a couple of rounds to figure it out totally, BUT we had fun trying, and we might have to go back at some point and buy it.

Saturday:  Long bike ride day.  We stayed up pretty late Friday night watching high school track and field sate competition on TV, so we slept in, and then hit the road on our bikes.  Andrew did 2 slow miles with me (including about 100 water stops), and then I took him back home before heading out for another 10.  I would love to ride longer, but I have GOT to get a new seat and get my handle bars adjusted.  My butt hurts too bad and my wrists kill me, and that isn't conducieve to longer rides.

Post ride, we headed to Manhattan to be true townies with a delicious lunch at Blue Stem bistro, and a trip to the splash park before heading out to a party on the prairie.  I so love manhattan in the summer!

Sunday:  Once again we stayed up late partying it up and playing a fierce game of Mexican dominoes while the kids played hard.  We slept in and then promptly got to work at the shop doing book work.  Ah, the joys of owning a small business, you don't own it, it owns you.  I had grand plans of doing another long bike ride but getting caught up on book work was more important.  We ended up working past 7 and then eating and crashing.  I did get in a quick 20 minute barre session, I a whole body session that killed me as always.

Shop kid says thank goodness for netflix!
I have one more day of rest and I can get back to some low mileage before my last pacing duty at the Hospital Hill race.  I am in some ways pretty grateful for the break.  My mind hasn't gone crazy and I have enjoyed sleeping in and have a few beers here and there that I normally wouldn't get.  It's been fun just hanging out with my family and not worrying about working out.  I also though am looking forward to getting back to some low mileage but I am worried.  My hip has quieted down to nothing and my foot is a dull occasional roar.  I am just worried that I may need another week and that even low mileage may be bad. I guess we shall see.  I have my last week of track club as well, our first t ball game, our second mud run, and first swimming lesson.  Bring it on SUMMER!
